Fighting Desire

        Excerpt

Confusion filled my brain. His actions didn’t make sense. The possibility that Nix would threaten me with a gun had never entered into any of my poorly calculated scenarios.

He was so sexy that even in terror, my pussy quaked with want. I’m just fucking sad.

The light shone down on the two of us and although Nix had my full attention, I could still feel the presence of others.

He quietly pulled a chair from the darkness, turned it backward, and sat down to face me with his gun arm resting over the back of it.

“Do you like games, Luv?”

I jumped so violently when Nix’s deep rumble echoed through the room that my chair nearly flipped onto the concrete floor.

“Wh-what do you mean?”

Nix’s golden orbs watched me. His long and curly lashes fanned slowly; like a sleepy but alert cat that’s ready to pounce at any moment.

“My favorite game has always been Truth or Consequences. Let’s play.”

“I-I don’t f-feel like playing a...”

“Wasn’t a question, Luv.”

He calmly cocked the revolver in his right hand and took a good steady aim at my head.

I should have been terrified but wasn’t. There was no explanation for my blind trust, but it was there. I was apprehensive, not afraid.

“Who sent you?”

Once again confusion filled my brain.

“I don’t understand. I told you...”

“Only because you’ve taken a knock to the head will I elaborate.”

Nix reached behind him and snapped his finger. A large manila envelope appeared from the dark.

“Someone told you to deliver this to me. You’re too broke and stupid to know what’s in it but they paid you well. That means you don’t have to spread your legs tonight... unless it’s for my mates. Now, who sent you?”

His cruel words were uttered without anger but didn’t lose their potency.

“No one sent me. I...”

Bang!

The shot went off and my hair blew from the wind carried in its wake.

He’s shooting at me! Oh God, he’s shooting at me!

Nix calmly kept the gun trained on me while speaking as if he were admonishing a child.

“Tsk, tsk. Truth or Consequences, remember? The stakes get higher, Luv. Again, who told you to deliver the envelope?”

“Please, I only came because I need help. I’m pregnant.”

Bang!

I screamed, gritted my teeth, and hissed. The bullet had grazed my lower jaw and hot blood rolled toward my chin.

Through my tear-filled eyes, I could see the spots made as droplets of blood fell into my lap.

Afraid to move, I watched Nix from under my lashes as the giant calmly took aim once again. He looked like he was flipping a television remote.

His eyes were not full of anger, hurt, or hate. They were not cold. Nix’s eyes and demeanor were... serene.

Hurting me gives him peace. God help me.

“You’ll find that I don’t have much mercy in me. Pretending to be pregnant won’t help you win the game. As a matter of fact, I always win. Now, I would be very still if I were you. I don’t shoot as well with my left hand, but since I need the practice.”

Nix switched the gun to his left hand and cocked it. I began to cry in earnest.

“Please, please stop. My baby... please!”

“You really should hold still, Luv. I haven’t made up my mind what to aim for next.”
